Ceramic Mugs
Creating Dye Sublimated Ceramic Mugs
To achieve stunning dye sublimation prints on ceramic mugs, gather the following materials:
- A dye sublimation printer and compatible ink
- Dye sublimation paper
- A heat press
- A ceramic mug featuring a polymer coating
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
- Design your artwork on a computer using graphic design software. Then, print it onto the dye sublimation paper using the dye sublimation printer.
- Preheat the heat press to the recommended temperature specified for your ink and ceramic substrate.
- Position the printed dye sublimation paper onto the mug, ensuring that the printed side faces downward.
- To protect the paper during the transfer, cover it with a silicone or Teflon sheet.
- Carefully place the mug into the heat press and close it securely.
- Apply the recommended pressure and heat for the designated time period, taking into account the specific requirements of your ink and substrate.
- Once the transfer is complete, remove the mug from the heat press and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
- Once the mug has cooled down, gently peel away the dye sublimation paper to unveil your beautifully transferred design.
Please remember to follow the precise instructions provided for your specific dye sublimation ink and heat press, as the recommended temperature and time may vary. Additionally, it is crucial to exercise caution when handling hot objects and to employ suitable protective gear, such as heat-resistant gloves, while operating a heat press.
